WHAT IT’S REALLY LIKE TO RUN MULTIPLE BUSINESSES
I love business! I am always thinking of ways to change, challenge & create. I currently have two businesses, today I’m lifting the lid on what it’s really like to run two companies, have multiple brands, lots of ideas & still have some spare time!
My businesses are this business, The Content Edit, where our current offerings include Instagram management, building brands, online courses, coaching & I’m always thinking of new ways I can help bloggers & small business owners stand out online. My second business is Voltage Sport which is an online shop which sells our original clothing designs inspired by sport & fitness. I am the co-founder of this business, alongside my boyfriend, Keil.
Multi-Passionate Business Life
The big positive is there is never a dull moment in running two businesses which are different when it comes to the things we offer but also have a lot of similarities. I love that each day is never the same, there is always something to do. I am learning each day more & more about business. These can always be negative in that there is always something else which needs doing, there is always lots to learn about business (even after all these years) & there isn’t much routine.
I do think if I had 100% of my focus on one business then I might have achieved or got closer to by goals quicker if all of my efforts were in one business but this truly is the only downside I have thought of. Of course, there’s no guarantee anything would have been different.
Each morning once I am ready to get to work I work through my to-do list on Evernote. There are usually a few tasks for each business & so I am usually working on both businesses each day. When there is a big launch coming in one of the businesses, I do my best to get on top of the tasks for the other business in advance. This way I can focus on making it the best launch. One thing I have learnt the hard way is not to launch products in both businesses at the same time!
I think one thing which has helped us here at The Content Edit I have always worked with clients & so I am used to moving from task to task with the focus on clients & their business. I find it easy to move from The Content Edit to Voltage Sport & back again in my thoughts.
Another big positive is that with Voltage Sport I run the business with Keil so we work together more, can bounce ideas off each other & I don’t have to do everything. At The Content Edit, Keil is really supportive but he isn’t working in it day to day so when it comes to making decisions it’s solely on me!
I absolutely love running both businesses, I think because they are different it keeps the days fun & I am so proud to see them both grow.
Sometimes in life, it’s about going with a new idea to see what happens, even if everyone around you thinks you’re crazy! If you feel you have an idea or opportunity then creating multiple income streams is one the most sensible things you can do. If you have the time & commitment to make it happen.
