PACKING TIPS FOR CONTENT CREATORS

By Caroline Towers

I’m currently getting ready to go on a beach holiday and I can’t wait! It got me thinking about what things I will be taking to help create content on top of my usual clothes, toiletries and shoes. So here is a list of things you might want to pack on your next trip to ensure you can capture some great content and ideas whilst you are there.

I always have my phone and laptop with me wherever I go, so for me, these are essential. The others on this list are things you might want to consider!

Camera

If you are planning on taking some really good quality photos for your blog or Instagram or you want to vlog your trip then pack a camera. Of course, your phone can do all of these if you’re not yet at the stage where you can upgrade. I don’t know about you but my phone soon gets full which is why I prefer a camera! I highly recommend the Canon G7X, it’s a camera many of the top bloggers and YouTubers use as it has a screen which flips up so you can see yourself!

Tripods

A tripod can really help with capturing video for your camera – Such as a smooth time-lapse of the sunrise. The Joby Gorillapod is useful as you can wrap them around things to really help you capture the best shot. If you’re planning on some live videos when you are there such as on Facebook or Instagram then a tripod for your phone might be helpful, these are small so take up less room. Of course, if you don’t have one then books, walls and other objects in your hotel room will become your best friends!

An External Hard Drive

If you are capturing lots of content, especially video these take up a lot of room then an external hard drive is worth taking so you never run out of space! You can transfer your files from your phone and your SD cards in your camera to a hard drive. You can then delete them from your device and you have them on the hard drive when you are ready to edit and share them at a later date.

Items You Want to Capture

Do you have any items you want to feature on your blog or Instagram account and you want a pretty photo of them? Pack them! Or if you’re working with a brand, take the items so you can really showcase your creativity as a creator. Things you might take are things which match your colour scheme, I’ll be taking a few things with me such as clothing for my other business,  Voltage Sport. Of course, if they are useful while you are there it’s even better as you don’t want an overweight suitcase! Yesterday, I bought some pink flip flops for on the beach – I can use these for some photos to match The Content Edit colour scheme but they are also practical!

A Notebook

A nice notebook is always useful for when you are away. When you are more relaxed you are more likely to come up with new ideas for your online brand and you don’t want to forget them! It’s also good to keep notes of places you have visited so you can include them on any social media you share afterwards. You can do all of this on your phone but I like to have a nice notebook to include in photos too (see above point).

Portable Charger

When you are out and about and using your phone to snap photos and use your Instagram Stories you don’t want to be worried about your phone running out of charge. A portable charger is useful as they are small enough to fit into your handbag and you can then use your phone as much as you like to take photos and videos (not too much though as you want to enjoy your holiday too).

These are some of my essential travel items for you to ensure you can capture plenty of content whilst you are away, after all, you might as well make the most of your new environment and get lots of potential images, video and content ideas for when you get back.

Ensure you have a great time on your trip and still spend lots of time enjoying the moment, you can quickly snap a photo and then put your phone away. The editing and publishing can happen later. Enjoy your next trip!
